- 1). Remove seats and decking to allow access to the entire hull. Inspect the seams of the boat using a strong light. Look for evidence of leaking, such as chalky or dark stains on the metal. Mark leaking rivets inside and out with a felt-tip pen.
- 2). Score the center of each rivet head with a center punch, then drill out the old rivet. Select a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the rivet shank, and be careful to drill at the same angle as the rivet. Clean the repair area thoroughly using denatured alcohol and clean rags.

Slip a pop rivet in the rivet gun, and press the shank through the drilled hole. Press the tool firmly against the hull and squeeze the handle repeatedly until the rivet seats tightly and the excess shank snaps off.
