Promises, Promises has made a comeback to the stage after almost more than four decades and although the age of the respective play is evident, but it does not pose a detriment to the show at any point. It has been based on the author Neil Simons thought provoking and well written book and has a tremendous score that has been given by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It is hard to ignore this show. There are a lot of colors on the stage, and the characters all indulge in light-hearted humor. It is evident from the start of Promises Promises that it is value for both your money and your time.
The story of the play revolves around a character named Chuck who takes a shortcut in his career and lends his executives his apartment so that they can carry on with their extramarital romantic trysts and in turn give him a promotion. The plot gets tricky when Chuck comes to know that Fran Kubelik (played by the actress Kristin Chenoweth), who is the lady of his dreams and the object of his affection, is very much in love with one of his slimy executives.
In spite of it being a regular story and not being very original, the direction and the choreography by Rob Ashford make it a must watch. He brings out the best in Hayes character. This play is marks his Broadway debut.
Promises is without doubt one of the best imaginative and thought provoking play that will stay with you long after you have left the theatre.
