- 1). Install the BFD software. Insert the installation disk into your computer, double-click the installer on your desktop and perform the basic installation process.
- 2). Open your Logic software, appearing in your Applications folder ("Macintosh HD" > "Applications" > "Logic"). Create a new Logic music project by clicking the "File" menu at the top of your screen and selecting "New."
- 3). Create a software track. In order to record music from digital instruments, you must use software tracks, which function as recording spaces for Logic's virtual instruments. Click the "Track" menu at the top of your Arrange window (your main project window) and click "New Track." When the pop-up menu appears, select "Software Track" from the list.
- 4). Open your mixer. Click the "Window" menu at the top of your screen, and select "Mixer."
- 5). Click and hold the "Input" button on your software track as it appears on the mixer (if you have created only one software track, the title should read "Inst 1"). When the pop-up menu appears, select "BFD" from the list. A new pop-up window will appear with your drum synthesizer.
- 6). Set up your drums. Using the options on your screen, you can manipulate the placement of each drum and the sound of each drum. For example, you will find a red and yellow beside each drum. The yellow is your "Mute" button, which quiets the drum, and the red button puts the drum into solo mode, silencing all other drums (except for those on which the red button is also selected). The vertical sliders in the lower-right corner impact the amount of reverb and spacing applied to your drums. Click the individual drums to see more advanced editing options.
- 7). Push the "Caps Lock" button on your keyboard to bring up Logic's virtual keyboard. You can now use the keys on your computer keyboard to play the drum sounds. Just follow the diagram on the virtual keyboard and play the keys that correspond to the different drums on your BFD kit.
