    • 1). Measure up from one 16-inch wide end of each 1-by-16-by-24-inch board and mark the board at 2, 9 and 18 inches. These are the measurements for the locations of the slots or dadoes that run parallel to the 16-inch ends across the width of the boards.

    • 2). Set up the table saw with dado set to make a 3/4-inch wide cut that is 3/8 inch deep. Run each side through the table saw at the marked measurements.

    • 3). Lay the sides parallel to each other on a work surface with the 1-by-24-inch sides flat on the work surface and the dadoes on the inside between the two boards. Space the boards approximately 30½ inches apart.

    • 4). Slide each 1-by-16-by-30½-inch board between the sides and push the 1-by-16-inch ends into the corresponding slots. These are the seat and shelf boards.

    • 5). Insert the 1-by-2-by-31¼-inch board below the bottom shelf with one 1-by- 31¼-inch side so that it will sit on the floor and the other against the bottom side of the bottom shelf. The 1-by-2-inch ends should be flat against the inside of the sides. This is the facial board. The bottom shelf is located 2 inches from the bottom end. The top shelf is located at 9 inches and the seat at 18 inches.

    • 6). Drive flush trim wood screws from the outside of the sides into the ends of the shelves, seat and facial board. Use a screw gun. Space four screws evenly per joint on the seat and shelves and two screws evenly per joint on the facial board.

    • 7). Fill the screw holes with wood putty. Allow the putty to dry and sand it flush with the surface of the wood.

    • 8). Paint the unit and allow the paint to dry.

    • 9). Place the unit in front of the window against the wall. Align an L-bracket in the center between the top shelf and bottom of the seat. Align the bracket in the corner on the inside back edge of the sides where they meet the wall. Drive the provided screws through the brackets into the seat sides and wall to secure the seat in place.

Install an L-bracket 1 inch in from each edge in the corner under the seat and top shelves to provide added support to the assembly. Drive the provided screws through the holes in the brackets into the wood to fasten them in place.
