How to Install a Speed Sensor on an AW4 Transmission
- 1). Place the vehicle in "Park." Turn the engine off and allow the vehicle ample time to cool completely.
- 2). Place two vehicle jacks near each front tire. Jack the vehicle up to give yourself an adequate amount of room to slide under the vehicle safely.
- 3). Slide under the passenger side and look straight up at the AW4 transmission. Locate the current speed sensor installed near the front of the transmission on the right side. The sensor sticks out of the side. Refer to your vehicle repair manual for a diagram, if needed.
- 4). Depress the sides of the wire harness and pull the connector from the current speed sensor. Use a socket wrench and remove the bolt that holds the speed sensor in place. Once the bolt is removed, unscrew the current sensor and discard.
- 5). Align the new AW4 speed sensor into place. Screw the sensor until it's secure. Do not over-tighten. Replace the bolt and tighten it with the socket wrench. Plug the wire harness into the new sensor. The sensor is now installed and ready for use. Move out from beneath the vehicle and lower the jacks.
