    • 1). Clean the bottoms of the skis to remove dirt and old wax. A citrus-based cleaner works best for this. Spray the cleaner onto the skis and allow it to set for a few minutes, then wipe with a soft rag or Fiberlene paper. Swix recommends using Swix base cleaner.

    • 2). Allow the skis to dry for five minutes.

    • 3). Slip a thick rubber band over each ski to hold down the ski brake.

    • 4). Use a course file to file the metal edges of the skis. Draw the file toward you, using short, overlapping movements. Work from the tail of the ski to the tip. File the edges on both sides of both skis.

    • 5). Polish the edges with a fine-grained file. Brush the file up and down the edges on both sides of the ski with smooth strokes to remove any burrs or rough edges.

    • 6). Brush the base with a bronze brush to polish the base.

    • 7). Heat a waxing iron. When the iron is hot, rapidly rub the bar of wax across the sole of the iron. Coat the entire sole of the iron with an even layer of wax.

    • 8). Lay a sheet of Swix Fiberlene paper on the bottom of the ski. Rest the waxed sole of the iron on top of the paper and draw the waxed iron and the paper the length of the ski. Use a smooth, steady movement. It should take about 20 seconds to move from the tip of the ski to the tail.

    • 9). Allow the ski to cool for 15 minutes.

    • 10

Grasp a Plexi-scraper in both hands. Starting at the tip of the ski, draw the scraper down the length of the ski in a smooth, even movement, scraping off excess wax.

    • 11

Brush the base of the ski with the bronze brush. Brush in one direction only. Swix recommends you brush the based 10 to 20 times.

    • 12

Use the scraper to remove excess wax along the edges of the ski.

    • 13

Brush the ski with a nylon brush to burnish the wax.

    • 14

Wipe the skis with a soft cloth or with Fiberlene paper.
