- 1). Snap together the track ends of multiple 2-foot long pigeon spikes to create a row of them. Create at least two rows, or enough to cover the roof area. Secure the tracks through the screw holes with roofing screws, nails, wire ties or construction adhesive. There must be no more than 2 inches between the rows of spikes for this to work.
- 2). Tie stretched lengths of fishing line between pipes, vents and weather vanes. The line must be approximately 1 1/2 inches off the roof surface. The pigeons won't be able to walk around the lines. Fishing line is an option for places pigeon spikes cannot be installed, such as roof peaks or the rails around a flat roof.
- 3). Cut shiny lengths of ribbon to 2 to 3 foot lengths and poke holes in one end of each strip. Secure the ribbon to anything on the roof with wire or twine. The visual effect of the ribbons should frighten pigeons.
