The Dining Table
It is not only furniture which you use while eating but is also a relationship builder! Just remember those moments when the whole family sat down at the dining table and shared so much.
It was traditionally made of wood and is still preferred but a whole lot of other materials like glass top, marble top or other alternative material that have a faux wood finish are also becoming popular. Just keep the following in mind while buying:
* What is your budget?
* What material will go with your dcor and your budget? Some traditional ones of oak and pine have an attractive rustic look but can be quite expensive. All materials have their own advantages and disadvantages. For example wood is lasting but can be heavy to move around, glass gives a sense of more space due to its transparency but also attracts dust quite fast.
* What shape will match your dcor and fit in your shape. The shape also depends on the number of people using it. If space and number of people is less then a circular table would be the ideal choice plus it will also have an intimate feel. If it is normally a large gathering and you also have the space then a classic rectangular or oval shape will be the choice. An extendible or drop leaf table is perfect for those homes with space constraint but normally have to attend to unexpected guests.
* Do you need chairs or the whole set? If you already have some beautiful chairs then just buy a simple table that goes with them. The design of the chairs is very important to the table as the shape of the legs and height of the chairs catch the eye first. It may happen that you may only need chairs and already have an excellent old table but are not able to find the correct match then try to refinish your table to the style of the chairs available as much as possible.
