Information on Creative Camera Filters
- Soft focus filters, also known as diffusion filters, give your photographs a foggy look and can add a romantic mood to photos taken close up.
- Star filters give a star burst effect to photographs in areas where there is bright light, such as candles, light bulbs or sunlight reflected off of water. These filters are available in four-, six- and eight-point varieties.
- Colored filters are a great addition to your creative lens collection. Colored filters allow you to take a picture in various shades of one color. You can find lenses of every color in the spectrum. Snap a quick shot of your family cat in green, blue, red or any color you choose.
- A split field density filter is a great way to create a gradual color change in your photographs. It allows you to control the amount of light or color on certain areas of your picture, rather than affecting the entire picture. For example, if you're set up to photograph an image with a bright sky in the background, this filter can add a touch of color or filter out some of the light across the top of your photo, thereby toning down the brightness of the sky. Many magazine photographers use this filter for their photographs.
- A polarizing filter allows you to reduce or eliminate the amount of glare. The filter adds contrast (especially between clouds and sky) and reduces reflections given off by glass, water and snow. This is one effect that is almost impossible to replicate using photo editing software.
