    • 1). Start the engine and allow it to run until normal operating temperature is reached on the temperature gauge in the instrument cluster. Turn the engine off.

    • 2). Plug the connector on the scan tool cable into the diagnostic connector located under the driver-side of the dash near the steering column. Start the engine and turn on the scan tool.

    • 3). Enter the year, make, and model into the scan tool and select data stream from the menu displayed on the tools screen. Locate the sync signal on the data stream readout. It must be 0 degrees +/- 2 degrees.

    • 4). Slightly loosen the distributor hold-down, located at the base of the distributor, using a 15 mm distributor wrench. Turn the distributor slightly and re-scan the data stream to check the sync signal. Continue turning the distributor until you get a sync signal of 0 degrees +/- 2 degrees.

    • 5). Tighten the distributor hold down securely and erase stored trouble codes using the scan tool. Test drive to verify that the check engine light does not reappear.
