    • 1). Download the most recent version of iTunes from Apple's website. On a Mac, update by clicking the Apple icon in the top left corner, then "Software Update."

    • 2). Connect the USB cord that came with your iPod nano to the bottom of your iPod and a 2.0 USB port on your computer. Open iTunes if it doesn't open automatically.

    • 3). Click on the icon for your iPod nano, then the "Summary" tab. Check "Manually manage music" if you want to add music by hand. Add music manually by dragging it from your iTunes library to the iPod's icon, or from any folder on your computer.

    • 4). Sync your iPod nano automatically by clicking on the "Music" tab, then "Sync music." You have two options: One will automatically select a random set of music from your iTunes library; the other will sync specific playlists, artists, or genres. If you check the latter, select the playlists, artists, or genres you want to sync automatically.

    • 5). Wait for the songs to load on your iPod nano, then click the eject button next to its icon. Your iPod nano is now ready to play the music you've loaded from iTunes.
