Great plan, love it! A few extras needed to get it running

Such a great plan! I'm not new to fly but I'm all new to r/c flight and it is a plan of grande entr©e for me. I'm going to a company in a different direction to do this check and note some additional elements needed to get up and running and some improvements €should be€ to ensure that it lasts a long time.

Thanks to Troy Dinger, who initially looked at this plan and Mr. Rannow for the addition of the list of the additional parts needed to get up and running. These are extra, and essential items that I bought to get up and running (all found on Amazon.com, indicated by an asterisk) and €better that what came in the box€ elements to ensure that you stay running (shown in a separate column also noted with an asterisk if found on Amazon.com):

-M5 thin viscosity CA Glue 1 oz ~$5.49
-Hangar 9 ~$16.99 hand pump
-Hangar 9 key long candle brought to ~$10.32
-Hangar 9 metered Glow driver, XL with ~$22.99 NiCd & charger
-Hangar 9 4-Cycle Super Glow Plug [(le kit est livr© avec un install©, j'ai achet© deux extras) ~$11.63 each]
-FOM10 Omega 10% gallons of fuel ~$16.82
-Pacer glue ZAP 30 Min Z-Poxy, 8 oz PAAPT39 ~$10.39
-Lot of 6 aircraft minutes Pro-Epoxy (see explanation below)
-Spektrum SPM9530 on/off switch 3-way (see explanation below)

Better than what was in the box:
-La Crosse Technology BC-700 Alpha Power ~$33.26 battery charger
XX-Sanyo battery-powered by eneloop, high-capacity 2500mAh, 4 Pack AA Ni-MH pre-charged rechargeable batteries (purchased two packs) ~$17.73
-Spektrum 4500mAh 6.0V NiMH receiver Pack (an upgrade to the receiver pack existing and a bit of a stretch. A pack of 2500/2700mAh receiver would be more than enough) ~$74.02

I forgot to order an electric starter and am regretting it. One of those who is organised very soon.

The batteries for the transmitter supplied in the box: get rid of em. Certainly that you can steal a few flights with them, they are like any other article that you buy that comes with batteries. They will last long enough to go there and then die in the middle of your fun. Instead of €use once€ nickel metal hydride, I opted for the Eneloop of Sanyo NiMH rechargeable batteries. The DX5E transmitter allows for rechargeable batteries if you want to. I also bought a power of La Crosse battery charger. This allows to display statistics of your transmitter's Eneloop AA batteries so you will know when you get out of your field and fly. No more guessing if you are fully charged or if the batteries are not something after a few uses. The charger will calibrate the battery of the transmitter for you. If buy this aircraft get back you some money, a good brand name AA battery will work (Duracell or Energizer).

A cell receiver battery 5 4500mAh Spektrum (part number SPMB4500NM) is an upgrade to the 4 battery pack cells accompanying the plan. 4500MAh cell 5 is complete overkill for this aircraft (go big or go home€¦) I guess). A 2700mAh cell 5 would be sufficient for this aircraft (part number SPMB2700NM). I use the 4500mAh receiver pack to extend my flights and I use the 4 cell that accompanies the plan as a spares on hand.

The great 6 minute epoxy, not bought on Amazon, used to seal the area immediately behind the engine to prevent the fuel/exhaust gas to penetrate and seep into the wood. Apparently I have not had this problem yet, the engine on this plan and others tends to blow back of exhaust and fuel that will penetrate the wood and get between the joints and the plan. A search for €Firewall Epoxy 40 Alpha€ will explain what is happening. Use thinning of large aircraft epoxy to seal the wood (I didnt not thin on my epoxy and it is a bit heavy nose).

A Spektrum SPM9530 switch was purchased to replace the one that came with this plan. I did not know this until one of the guys in the store told me and I went home and googled this, but after many uses (on/off, on/off switch, active/inactive), the porter factory switch out and sporadically will power off. A new Spektrum SPM9530 was purchased to replace the switch of the factory (a very simple replacement). The old switch had €TB€ printed on both sides and the new replacement had none of these marks. No need to get up and just driving (that included works) but something to replace on the road.

I hope that my review has not discouraged everyone to buy the aircraft. Like everything you buy, it has its quirks and the plan as another aircraft will have the vagaries and pitfalls that you need to overcome. All this is part of the passion! I did this for a week and he loves it! I'm glad this was my first purchase and comes from what I can tell, there are a lot of things great you can with this aircraft as you become more experienced with it.

I will conclude with a few useful Web sites I found after I bought this plane to give me a €crash€ course in flight (a bit ironic use of the term).
Google search: €baptism of alpha 40€, €changing alpha 40€, €alpha 40 should make€, €propeller blades of 2 40 alpha€. To learn the tricks of cutting your controller to take flight and landing, Google search €world flying an aircraft rc school' and for grand how search videos (professional videos) for €test flite€ and Youtube channel €flite test€.

Good luck and happy flying to each and everyone!
