How to Cut 2-Inch Tile

104 3
    • 1). Measure the size of the space where the tile is going. Subtract whatever size your grout lines are (generally, 1/8 or 1/4 inch).

    • 2). Make the appropriate marks at two ends of the tile with your wax pencil. Lay your straightedge across the marks. Draw the full line with your wax pencil along the straightedge. Put a small "x'' on the side that you're going to keep.

    • 3). Lay the tile on a flat surface. Hold it down with one hand. With the other hand, run the blade over the line, making one straight, clear score across the surface. (Don't go back over the same spot twice.)

    • 4). Hold the scored tile in one hand. Take the hand-held tile cutter in the other hand. Position the two prongs of the tile cutter so they're pressing down on either side of the scored line, with the single prong of the bottom part of the cutter sitting directly below the line.

    • 5). Squeeze the tile cutter firmly and evenly, but carefully, until the tile snaps in two. Both pieces should land in your palm.

    • 6). Set the "x''-marked piece into the spot where it goes.
