How to Decorate a Long Low Wall in a Family Room
- 1). Paint the wall the same color as your living room. Don't try to get creative and paint the wall a completely different color than the rest of the room. Your wall already stands out because of its length and size, so avoid distancing the wall from the rest of the room by painting it a different color.
- 2). Hang family photos on the wall. Place each photograph in a black frame. Each picture frame should be the exact same size and color for symmetry. Hang the pictures in a long, straight line, which will accentuate the length of your wall while also reminding viewers that this room is focused on the family.
- 3). Add a small plant to the top of your wall. Place it at one end of the wall. The plant will emphasize the concept of nature and growth, which are both key elements in family time. Opting for a single plant, rather than a row, will also prevent your wall from looking too crowded or cluttered.
- 4). Place a small basket at the opposite end of the wall. This basket should remain empty as much as possible but will serve as a "catch all" for important family items. For example, if someone brings their keys downstairs, they can place the keys in the basket instead of tossing them on top of the wall or on the coffee table.
