Window Shades That Pull Up From the Bottom
- Window shades come in many styles: reverse shades let you pull them up from below.the person at a window. image by Andrey Armyagov from Fotolia.com
Typically, shades extend to cover a window by pulling down from the window's top edge. However, for some applications, it's more useful to have reverse window shades, which retract to the window sill. You extend these shades to cover the window by pulling them upwards. Because reverse shades cannot rely on gravity, they have some kind of hook or tension device to keep them aloft. - A cellular or "honeycomb" shade, Target's Top Down / Bottom Up Shade uses multiple layers that are attached in such a way that pockets of air expand and contract as the shade raises and lowers. True to its name, the shade allows you two options to open and close it; you can raise its lower edge, as with a traditional window shade, or you can lower its upper edge, as with a reverse shade. The shade includes an attached valance. For most windows, at least two panels are necessary for full coverage. The shade includes all necessary mounting hardware, but not tools. Target will ship it anywhere in the continental United States.
- Bed, Bath and Beyond's Top Down Bottom Up 23" x 64" White Shade offers a honeycomb structure, like Target's model, with the option of traditional or reverse operation. It filters light for energy efficiency and lifts cordlessly. The material is 100 percent polyester and can be mounted either inside or outside the window frame. The shade includes all mounting hardware as well as installation instructions. You can either dust or vacuum the shade to keep it clean.
- JC Penney's Top Down/Bottom Up Cordless Cellular Shade doesn't require any cord for smooth operation, either traditional or reverse. You may order it in a set size or with made-to-order specifications. The shade is thicker than standard cellular shades, improving energy efficiency by keeping in warmth in winter and reducing heat absorption in summer. In addition, the thicker shade absorbs noise. The shade material is spun, not woven. Available colors include gold, espresso, bronze, white and off-whites. The window's top-mounted headrail is color-coordinated and has a smoothly rounded shape. Top-mounted brackets are included for installation. You can vacuum or dust the shade to keep it clean.
