    • 1). Create an account with an "over the air" software. Software such as Google's Gmail and MobileMe by Apple will keep your contacts updated and transferred to various locations if you have an active account/email address. A MobileMe account is free for 60 days and charges $99 per year whereas a Google account is free.

    • 2). Open your address book located on your computer or device and click "File," then "Export." The software will create a CSV file that can be saved to your desktop or other area that you can access.

    • 3). Open your browser either using your mobile device or computer and access your Gmail, MobileMe or other third-party over-the-air account. Click "Import" under contacts and navigate to the CSV file that you saved. Your contacts will now be merged with the third-party software.

    • 4). Create an email account through your cell phone. Use the built-in mail function available in most cell phones and input your username and password for the third-party email account you have used. If you are not using an email over-the-air software, then access the website (Gmail, etc) using your mobile phone.

    • 5). Click on the option to sync contacts and automatically update (through your mobile phone). All contacts that were just imported into the over-the-air software will automatically sync with your phone. Depending on the type of phone you have, it will sync and update your contacts when it is connected to the computer, such as the iPhone.

    • 1). Install and download a third-party application that will obtain the contacts from your cell phone and transfer to your computer. For example Bitpim is a free software that can be used as well as Microsoft Device Center which comes with Windows.

    • 2). Open the software and connect your computer to the cell phone using any cords that were provided.

    • 3). Click the option to sync your contacts by placing a check mark next to contacts. The software will either transfer your current contacts that you have saved to your computer to the phone or transfer the contacts from the phone to the computer.
