Camping Recipes
We have been camping for many years and have found a lot of recipes that we like.
Most of them are very easy and even kids can make them.
Everyone loves to congregate around the campfire in the evening to talk about what they seen and did that day and to plan their next day.
The great thing about this is that the cook is right there with everyone so they are included in all of the conversations.
I don't know why it is but campfire smoke gives a wonderful flavor to the food you cook.
One of our favorite foods cooked on the open fire are potatoes and onions.
I found a great recipe for them that take hardly any work at all.
I will give you two of my families favorite camping recipes.
Grilled Banana And Peanut Butter Sandwiches
Put another slice on top to make a sandwich.
Butter the outsides of the bread and cook in a skillet till golden brown.
Flip the sandwich and do the same to the other side.
My kids and grandkids love these peanut butter sandwiches.
Of course, if your kids don't like bananas you can always leave them out.
Maybe you could put jam or jelly in the sandwich instead of the bananas.
Either way they are very good and kids love to make them.
When you grill them it just seems to give them a different taste.
Campfire Birds Nest
When it is crisp, transfer to paper towels to drain.
Be sure to use at least 2 layers of towels.
Pour out the bacon grease from the skillet.
Tear the center out of the bread.
Put the bread in the skillet and toast one side.
Turn the bread and crack an egg into the center of the bread.
Add salt and pepper.
Cook until the egg is firm and transfer to a plate.
Top with the crumpled bacon.
You can add a piece of cheese on top if you like cheese.
Kids love to make the breakfast for everyone.
It makes them feel like they have contributed to the camping trip.
