Husband knew of campgrounds in the Durango area, and once we viewed it on the Internet, we decided to book reservations at Lightner Creek. We RV camped there the summer of 2006.
Describe your camping trip:
The 2006 stay was our second stay at Lightner Creek. Two or three years before we had camped there in a tent, however, the second time we were in our fold-down tent trailer. We have family and friends in the Durango vicinity, but we prefer to stay at the campground rather than inconvenience them.
When we want to go into town, it is just a short drive. It is nice having the bathhouse/restrooms close by. Although we haven't taken advantage of the pool either time we have been there, it always looks so inviting. It is our summer place to stay, when we are in Durango. Having the little store and laundry facilities right on site makes it convenient and means we don't have to pack along as many clothes.
Pros: Close to Durango, nice camping spots, clean bathhouse, friendly owners and staff, laundry and ice - saves trips into town.
Cons: none
Nearby attractions: Honeyville, fishing, hot springs, train ride, Silverton, Old Hundred Mine tour, and four-wheel mountain paths are just a few of the many things to do in the area.
Further comments: We plan to stay there again in June.
