Friends told us about this campground, and we camped there in May 2001.
Campground Review
This is an older campground and state park. It was built by the CCC during the Depression. The camp sites are large, mostly shaded, and well maintained. They have water and electricity and some sites have a gray-water dump area. The bath houses are old but well-kept and very clean. There is a pool, playgrounds, a lake for fishing, and trails to hike.
F.D. Roosevelt is the largest state park in Georgia and has miles of trails. The campground is only about 10 minutes from Calloway Gardens where you can enjoy the beach, golf, FSU circus (summers), beautiful flowers, and a butterfly center. It is also nearby to FDR's Little White House in Warm Springs and Wild Animal Safari, a drive-through exotic animal park.
But if you just want to go and relax, it is great because you don't feel like anyone is camped right on top of you. Also, because of the large trees surrounding the area, you feel as if you are miles from civilization when you are actually only minutes away.
The park also has cabins for rent, as does Calloway Gardens and the nearby town of Warm Springs.
