- 1). Slip on a pair of gloves, which are generally provided with the kit, and mix the ingredients according to the package directions.
- 2). Cover your shoulders with a towel or slip on an old T-shirt before applying the dye.
- 3). Brush out your hair with a wide-tooth comb and apply the dye to the roots alone. Divide your hair into sections to ensure that you apply the dye to your entire head. Work the dye into the roots and not the scalp, as the product will irritate its sensitive skin.
- 4). Allow the dye to remain on the roots according to the package directions.
- 5). Rinse the dye from your hair with warm water. Some dyes instruct you to wet the hair and work the dye into a lather before rinsing. Others only direct the user to rinse the dye out. Either way, rinse the dye out until the water runs clear.
