How to Add XM Radio to Honda Ridgeline RTS
- 1). Examine the stereo receiver in your Honda Ridgeline RTS. Look on the unit's faceplate for a tiny, circular input labeled "AUX." If this input is present you can connect your standalone XM receiver to your stereo using an auxiliary cable, which provides clean digital transmission. If this input is not present you're not out of luck, but you'll need to use an FM transmitter to connect your XM receiver to your car stereo which will result in quality loss as you drive through certain areas with a lot of powerful FM transmissions.
- 2). Purchase a standalone XM receiver (see References). Many different types exist, each with their own unique set of features. Also subscribe to a monthly programming plan, which you can do from the official XM website. For example, certain types of receivers are only compatible with certain types of programming packages. Even though XM and Sirius Satellite Radio are one company, you'll need a Sirius-compatible receiver to pick up any of their programming. Also, some receiver units feature full color displays with graphics, album art and station information, while others only show a line of text on their screen detailing what channel you're on and little other information.
- 3). Plug one end of the auxiliary cable that came with your standalone XM receiver into the receiver itself. Plug the other end into the AUX input on your Ridgeline RTS' stereo. The AUX input will be on the front of your Ridgeline RTS' stereo and will be clearly labeled. You will now be able to listen to XM Satellite Radio in your car.
- 4). Plug the FM transmitter that came with your standalone XM receiver into the receiver itself (if applicable). Then, tune the stereo in your Honda Ridgeline RTS to an FM station that is not being used for local programming. Then, tune the FM transmitter to that same station.
