How to Check the Fuel Lines and Fuel Pump in a Toyota Corolla
- 1). Raise the rear end of the Corolla with a floor jack, and support it by the frame with jack stands. Slide under the back of the car and locate the fuel lines. The fuel tank is centered on the bottom of the rear and the fuel lines run from the front of it along the bottom of the frame to the engine compartment.
- 2). Look for kinks or crushed areas in the fuel lines. In newer Corolla models, the lines are nearly always metallic. In older models, there might be dry rot in the rubber coating the steel, so pay particular attention to the ends where it attaches to the ports. Replace any damaged sections.
- 3). Disconnect the fuel line from the port attached to the fuel tank with a wrench and place a bucket beneath the port. Turn the engine over briefly to make sure that fuel pumps from the tank. Turn the Corolla off and reattach the fuel line to the port. Replace the fuel pump if the gas doesn't pump out of the port.
- 4). Lower the rear end of the Corolla. If there are further problems with your fuel consumption, then have a professional diagnose the problem.
