- 1). Find a website that offers a free online software tool for making ring tones. Some of these websites include Cell Sea, Pisamba, Make Own Ringtone and MP3 Cut (you can find links to their websites in Resources). These websites are free and do not require registration.
- 2). Click on "Upload" or "Choose File" when you open the website.
- 3). Choose a song in MP3 format from your computer's hard drive.
- 4). Modify and crop the song as you like. A suitable length for the ring tone usually varies between 15 and 20 seconds. Select a fragment of the song from the timeline and drag the sliders to make adjustments. Make sure the ring tone doesn't have an abrupt beginning or ending.
- 5). Download and save the ring tone on the computer. You can select desktop as the destination folder.
- 6). Connect your cell phone with the computer using its USB data cable, and transfer the newly created ring tone to the phone.
