How to Use a GPS System

• 1). Your GPS will automatically find your current location when you turn it on. Many GPS devices will save your house, work or other common starting locations, if you program them to.
  
  
• 2). Put in the address of your destination. Look at the route before you leave to double-check that it makes sense. You could easily make a mistake and put the wrong address in, and it is better to figure this out before you start driving.
  
  
• 3). Follow the visual and auditory directions the GPS gives you. With some GPS devices, you can even pick the gender and accent of the system voice. When a turn is coming up, the GPS will speak to you and show you the turn on the screen.
  
  
• 4). Save the route once you get to your destination, if you think you'll travel it again.
  
  
• 5). Use the "Via" feature to travel by points of interest, such as a national landmark or a hotel where you are staying overnight. Use the "Alternate routes" feature if you do not like the original route the device gave you to follow.
