How to Repair Bathroom Ceramic Tiles

    • 1). Use the grout saw to dig out the grout from around the damaged tile, scraping the saw forward and back over the grout surface and breaking it up. Extract as much as you can without damaging the adjacent tiles.

    • 2). Set the tip of your chisel inside one grout line at the base of the damaged tile, at the seam where it meets the wall. Hold the chisel at a shallow angle and hit it with a hammer. Do this repeated as you move the chisel along the whole edge of the tiles, tapping at it until the adhesive bond breaks and the tile comes out.

    • 3). Use a razor scraper to scrape the excess adhesive and grout off the exposed wall.

    • 4). Use a notched tiling knife to spread adhesive on the back of your replacement tile, covering it completely to a depth of about 1/8 inch. Press the tile to the open space on the wall, making the gap around it even on all sides and consistent with the neighboring tiles. Press it firmly until it stays in place.

    • 5). Let the adhesive set overnight. Press grout into the gap around the perimeter of the tiles, using a grout float. Wipe off the excess grout with a damp sponge. Let it set for 24 hours.
