How do I Test a Force Outboard Motor When it Is Out of the Water?
- 1). Shift the motor into neutral and bend back the tabs that wrap around the propeller retaining nut with a pair of pliers. Put a flat piece of lumber between the anti-cavitation plate and the propeller and remove the propeller nut with an adjustable wrench. Slide the propeller from the propeller shaft.
- 2). Connect a garden hose to your home's outside water spigot. Screw the other end of the garden hose into a pair of ear muffs--the outboard motor flushing attachment available from Mercury Marine dealers and most boat supply houses, not the item of apparel.
- 3). Set the ear muffs over the water intakes on the "leg" of the Force outboard. Turn the water on full force. Start the motor and conduct such tests as you deem necessary.
- 4). When the tests are complete, shut the motor down, turn off the spigot and remove the ear muffs from both motor and hose.
