How to Disassemble the Dashboard and Sideboard in a 2000 LX 626 Mazda
- 1). Open the hood of the 626 and use a socket wrench to disconnect the battery.
- 2). Get into the car. Remove the two screws from the arm rests on the center console with a Phillips screwdriver. The screws are on the underside of each arm rest, one at the front and one at the rear.
- 3). Remove the parking brake cover with a slotted screwdriver and remove the screws that connect the arm rest and shifter console where they connect. Remove the arm rest console by pulling it out of the vehicle.
- 4). Rotate the shift knob counterclockwise to remove it. Remove the two screws at the bottom of the shifter console. Pull the shifter console out of the 626.
- 5). Remove the holding tray below the AC unit. Remove the two screws behind the tray and remove the screws on the corners of the center dash bezel. Pull the center panel out of the 626. Disconnect the electrical harnesses and remove the center panel.
- 6). Remove the two screws holding the radio in place at the upper corners of the radio. Pull the radio out of the 626. Remove the two screws in the upper corners of the AC unit and pull it out as well.
- 7). Open the glove compartment and remove the two screws securing it to the dashboard at the rear panel of the glove compartment. Remove the plastic fasteners under the glove box on the rear edge of the glove box . Pull the glove box off the dashboard. Remove the lower kick panel by removing the two screws at the upper corners of the kick panels. Disconnect all three of the electrical connectors behind it, directly below the steering wheel.
- 8). Remove the three screws on the underside of the dash above the instrument cluster. Remove the four screws in each corner of the instrument cluster and pull it toward you. Disconnect the electrical connector at the rear of the instrument cluster and remove it
- 9). Unplug the hood release knob by pulling it out with a slotted screwdriver. Pry off the steering wheel column covers using a slotted screwdriver. Uninstall the screws at the sides of the switch panel cover using a Phillips screwdriver.

Uninstall the four 10-mm bolts securing the metal plate under the steering wheel and remove the plate. There is one bolt in each corner of the metal plate. Uninstall the two 10-mm bolts securing the steering column at the rear edge of the column and lower it onto the seat. - 11
Uninstall the three 10-mm bolts on the side panels of the dash. Uninstall the two bolts on the dashboard at the bottom of the center console. Remove the final bolt on the upper dashboard panel close to the windshield. Pull the dashboard out of the 626.
