How to Make Your Utility Trailer Into a Travel Trailer
- 1). Measure and mark a spot on the floor of the trailer 4 feet in from the rear door entrance wall and 4 feet from the side wall.
- 2). Position the 8-foot 2-by-4 vertically on the spot you just marked off. Have the person helping you hold it in position.
- 3). Nail the 2-by-4 to the floor at this position. Hammer the nails in at an angle towards the floor from all four sides of the 2-by-4.
- 4). Nail the 2-by-4 to the trailer roof at this position. The board is now a vertical post and secured to the trailer. This will form the corner for the bathroom area.
- 5). Measure and mark a point 6 feet off the floor on the side wall of the trailer that is 4 feet away from the vertical post. This will be one point for attaching a curtain rod to provide privacy for the bathroom area.
- 6). Hammer a nail at the point marked in step 5.
- 7). Measure and mark a point on the vertical post 6 feet from the floor on the side of the post facing the nail you hammered into the side wall in the last step.
- 8). Hammer a nail into the point marked in step 7.
- 9). Hang the 4-foot spring-loaded tension shower-curtain rod on the nails that you just hammered into the side wall and the vertical post. Do this by compressing the springs on the shower curtain rod, thus reducing its size. Then expand the rod slowly to its original size, allowing the nails to go into the center of each end of the rod. This will hold the curtain rod in place without it falling. Hang the 4-foot-wide shower curtain on the rod, using shower curtain hooks. The privacy curtain has now been placed.

Lay the foldable changing screen (folded up) against the vertical post. This will be the privacy wall for the bathroom area. The bathroom user can unfold the screen and place it on the side of the bathroom cubicle where there is no shower curtain, between the vertical post and the rear door of the trailer. With the door of the trailer closed, this will enclose the bathroom area and provide complete privacy to the bathroom user. - 11
Place the self-contained portable camping toilet in the bathroom area against the side wall of the trailer. - 12
Lay each of the 1 1/2 foot 1-by-2s on the floor around the portable camping toilet. Nail the1-by-2s to the floor. This will secure the 1 1/2-foot-square toilet. The toilet should not slide, bounce or rattle during travel. The bathroom area is now complete. - 1). Paint the light-colored varnish on the walls, floor and roof of the trailer and the vertical post. Wait about two hours to allow the varnish to dry. This will make the trailer bright and pleasant when you have the interior lights on.
- 2). Measure and mark a point on each of the side walls of the trailer that are 5 feet down each wall from the front of the trailer and 6 feet high off the floor of the trailer.
- 3). Hammer one nail into each of the points that you marked on the side walls of the trailer in step 2.
- 4). Hang a 6-foot spring-loaded tension shower curtain rod on the nails you placed in the walls in step 3. Do this by compressing the springs on the shower curtain rod, reducing its size. Then expand the rod slowly to its original size, allowing the nails to go into the center of each end of the rod. This will hold the shower curtain rod in place without it falling. Hang the 6-foot-by-6-foot shower curtain on the curtain rod, using shower curtain hooks. This provides privacy for the bed area.
- 5). Lay the double-bed box springs on the floor of the trailer in the bed area, then lay the double-bed mattress on top. This is the camper's bed.
- 6). Nail the 6-foot 2-by-4 to the floor of the trailer along the edge of where you placed the box spring. This will hold the bed in place while traveling. You're now ready for a trip.
