- 1). Upgrade to newest version of iTunes. You can go to the iTunes website and select the iTunes program to download. Once you have downloaded the program click on the file that was downloaded and iTunes will install. You must use the latest version available for download. Older versions of iTunes didn't allow copying of music from the Nano to the computer and can even wipe out files on the Nano.
- 2). Authorize the computer. In iTunes go to the "Store" menu and choose "Authorize." If asked for additional information about your account, please provide all of the account details. This needs to be the same account in which you bought the Itunes music, otherwise you would be able to share all of your music illegally.
- 3). Connect the Nano to the computer using the cable that came with the Nano. Make sure iTunes is running. Itunes should detect if there are songs on your Nano that are not on the computer. When the menu to sync pops up choose "Transfer purchases" choosing something else may cause the loss of files.
