Choose three colors that complement one another and match the colors of your walls. For neutral toned walls such as beige, eggshell or tan, coordinating colors include earthy tones like hunter green, medium brown and terra cotta. Light, muted colors correspond well with boldly colored walls. For example, walls of bright red contrast well when matched with light red, pink or white essentials.

Jot down a list of all of the essentials you need to match. Bedroom essentials include sheet sets, comforters, pillow shams, window valances and bed skirting. Bathroom essentials include bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, shower curtains and window valances.

    • 5). Browse all of the needed essentials at your local home interior design shops or search through catalogs online and in print. Observe the written list of needed items and three paint swatches of your choice and compare them to the items you find for purchase.

    • 6). Incorporate your color choices with the items you purchase by creating an alternating scheme. For example, assign bold color to the large bath towels and make the hand towels two or three shades lighter. Washcloths can contrast with the scheme with a random pastel color.

    • 7). Match the bathroom elements with your bedroom by making your window treatments and bed skirting the same color as the washcloths in your bathroom. Make the comforter the deep bold color of your towels and the sheets the lighter shade. The symmetry in color between the two rooms creates a soothing environment, depending on your choice of colors.
