How to Reduce Mattress Height
- 1). Remove the mattress from off the box spring and gently place it against the wall. Drag the box spring off the bed frame.
- 2). Measure how far off the ground the bottom of the bed frame is. Write down this height. Replace your bed frame with a low profile metal bed frame. Low profile bed rails work with footboards and headboards.
- 3). Measure the height of your box spring. Write down this measurement. Purchase a new box spring of the same width and length but which has a lower height. You can ask for a low profile box spring, which is 4 to 5 inches less in height than traditional box springs. Alternatively, you can ask for a bunkie board, which is an even lower box spring designed for bunk and day beds.
- 4). Place your new box spring on your new lower metal frame. Place your mattress on top. Now, your mattress won't be as high off the ground, but you won't have done anything to compromise the stability of your mattress.
