Rayon Fabric Projects for Kids

Superheros, magicians and kids alike need a good cape. Have your child pick out some colorful rayon fabric he likes and then use pinking shears to cut a square-sized piece of fabric that will fit your child. Let your child stick Velcro dots to two neighboring corners of the square and then drape the cape around your child. You and your child have made a super cape fit for a hero or a magician. - You can work together as a family to make a fabric flag.Brand X Pictures/Brand X Pictures/Getty Images
Many families have family crests and family trees, but few have their own flag. Have your children cut out fabric pieces to construct a family flag. Begin with an 8-by-12-inch piece of fabric and then have your kids cut out pieces of fabric and adhere them to their flag with craft glue. They can add glitter, drawings or buttons to the flags as well. When finished, proudly hang their flags in their room. - A fun bookmark is the perfect craft for young readers.Jupiterimages/Goodshoot/Getty Images
Fabric bookmarks are an excellent project to entertain your kids -- and give them a little extra motivation to read, too. Have your child find a fabric print he really likes and then have him cut out a shape, such as a heart, square or a circle; bookmarks don't always have to be rectangular. Have your kids then cut out a piece of cardboard the same size and shape and have them glue the fabric to the cardboard. Have them use a paper hole punch to punch a hole in the top of the bookmark. Thread a tassel through the hole. The kids can then use markers to continue decorating their fabric bookmark before they put it to good use. - Fabric frames are easy for kids to do themselves.Jupiterimages/BananaStock/Getty Images
Great photographs deserve to be displayed in great frames. Kids can decorate a picture frame using some rayon fabric and craft glue. Remove the frame backing and glass, leaving just the frame. Hand the frame over to the kids so that they can take strips of printed fabric and wrap the fabric around the frame, using glue to keep the fabric in place as they go. Once the frame is completely covered and excess fabric is trimmed, allow the glue to dry. Once finished, you and your kids will have a fun frame to use to display a family photo. - Kids can enjoy making birthday badges for a party favor.BananaStock/BananaStock/Getty Images
A fun craft that doubles as a neat birthday party favor is a birth year badge project. Give kids pennies that were minted the year they were born. Have them glue the pennies with the year facing out to a piece of fabric. Then have them cut out the fabric in a fun shape -- such as a star, a circle or a heart -- with pinking shears. Adhere a pin backing to each badge, and then have the kids pin their badges to their shirts. Now they have birth year badges to take home and keep.
