How Do I Change the Gas Filter on GM Pickup Trucks?
- 1). Remove the negative battery cable from the truck battery with an open-end wrench before attempting to change the gas filter. Move the negative battery cable out of the way, so that it does not touch any metal parts.
- 2). Take the cap off the gas tank in order to relieve the pressure on the tank. Find the metal fuel pressure regulator underneath the driver's side of the truck on the fuel line, next to the rail.
- 3). Bleed the remaining fuel pressure from the fuel line, unhooking by hand the bleed hose that leads into the pressure regulator and placing it into an empty container to catch any excess fuel. Turn the engine motor over a couple times to relieve any remaining fuel pressure.
- 4). Reattach the fuel line to the pressure regulator by hand. Locate the gas filter on the fuel line next to the pressure regulator and use a shop cloth to clean around the connections to the filter.
- 5). Remove the fuel line fittings from the gas filter, using open-end wrenches to loosen the fittings and carefully pulling the fittings away from the filter. Slide the gas filter out of the metal bracket by hand and discard the filter.
- 6). Place the new gas filter into the bracket under the truck and remove the plastic caps on both ends of the filter. Attach the fuel line fittings to the filter with the open-end wrenches until the fittings are snug.
- 7). Tighten the cap on the gas tank. Reattach the negative battery cable to the battery of the GM pickup truck.
