Pine Cone Christmas Crafts

    Tree Ornaments

    • Painted silver or gold and sprinkled with ultra-fine crystal glitter, pine cones add an extra flash of reflected light to your Christmas tree. Glue a simple ribbon hanger to the top or thread crystal beads on jewelers' wire and wrap the wire around the top of the cone for a more glitzy hanger.

    Wreath

    • Hot-glue small cones, such as hemlock pods, onto a foam wreath. Mix in a few nutmegs, unshelled nuts or other seedpods. Embellish your holiday wreath with a big red velvet bow.

    Potpourri

    • Spruce, fir and hemlock cones tossed with scented orris root create a simple but visually pleasing holiday potpourri. "Glam" it up with a few small ornaments or beads and display the mixture in an extra-large brandy snifter or glass jar. If you plan to display the mixture for a long time, you may want to omit the fragrance oil, as it will remove the paint from the ornaments or beads.

    Elves

    • Create your own holiday workforce when you paint larger cones red or green for elves' bodies. Make heads from walnuts and cinnamon stick arms and legs. Give your magical toy makers felt caps and wiggle or painted eyes and place them along the mantel or hang them from the branches of your holiday tree.
