How to Decide if You Should Get Contacts
- 1). Talk with your eye doctor to determine if you are able to wear contacts. Health conditions like dry eye syndrome, or certain eye shapes, prevent some people from wearing contacts.
- 2). Determine if you can handle the responsibility of having contacts. Remember you have to put them in, take them out and clean them every day. If you do not think you can care for your contacts properly, hold off for a while.
- 3). Try putting contacts in your eyes. Your doctor will give you a sample pair and teach you how to put them in. If you cannot handle touching your eyes, or using eye drops, contacts may not be the best option for you.
- 4). Decide if you can afford contacts. A pair of glasses lasts many years without needing to be replaced. Contacts, however, have to be changed often and are more of an expense. Additionally, you must have an eye exam each year before you order new contacts.
- 5). Consider your lifestyle. If you are involved in activities like swimming, gymnastics, football or virtually any other sports, contacts are your best option. If you are someone who uses a computer a lot, glasses might be better. When you focus on your computer you tend to blink less and this causes contacts to become dry and your eyes to become irritated.
