How to Thread a Wards Signature Sewing Machine
- 1). Place a spool of thread onto the thread spindle. Make sure the thread is coming from the right to the left in front of the spool, not behind it.
- 2). Pull the end of the thread toward the left. Thread it through the back thread guide, then downward through the front thread guide. Both of these guides are made of curls of metal, so you can thread them by twirling the thread around the metal spiral instead of having to actually thread the holes in the center.
- 3). Pull the thread down and around between the two tension discs from the right to the left. Near the top of the tension discs on the left side you will see a notch cut out of the metal. This is the guide notch leading to the check spring. Slip the thread through the guide notch and it will catch on the check spring.
- 4). Bring the end of the thread up through the wire guide to the take-up lever. Thread the end of the strand through the hole, from right to left, in the end of the lever and back down again toward the left.
- 5). Pull the end of the thread strand down through the metal wire guides on the left side of the machine body. Lead the thread through the final guide right above the needle. Thread the needle from left to right and pull out a tail of 3 inches. Pull the thread tail behind the needle.
