How to Finish or Bind Off in Knitting
- 1). Slip the first stitch from the left needle to the right needle. Enter the stitch as if you were going to knit it as you slip it.
- 2). Knit the second stitch. If the pattern is in rib or purl, keep to the pattern by knitting or purling this stitch as necessary.
- 3). Insert the left needle between the two stitches on the right needle from the right side while keeping the left needle in front of the right one.
- 4). Use the left needle to hook the slipped stitch up and over the second stitch. In knitting terms, this is called "passing a stitch."
- 5). Lift the right needle up to release the slipped stitch. You have now cast off your first stitch and have only one stitch remaining on the right needle.
- 6). Knit the next stitch and remove the first stitch knitted using the same method as was used to remove the slipped stitch.
- 7). Repeat Step 6 until only one stitch remains on the right needle.
- 8). Cut the working yarn, leaving 6 inches for finishing work. Slip the end of the yarn through the final stitch and remove it from the left needle.
