How to Easily Make Firewood
- 1). Empty the old backpack and head out onto the property where you wish to collect the firewood.
- 2). Search for branches that have fallen from trees, or old trees that are dead or have fallen from age.
- 3). Break off the branches or parts of the dead tree by using your hands and legs. Try and get the pieces around 12 inches long, and no wider than 2 inches in diameter. Place them in the backpack, lengthwise and fill until the weight is a reasonable level for you to carry to the campsite.
- 4). Push stacks of old leaves from the ground. Look for hidden dead wood under the fallen leaves. Collect these pieces for burning. Bring a large quantity of the dried leaves with you to use as a fire starter.
- 5). Saw larger wood pieces into smaller and useable pieces with the hand saw. Position the wood pieces so they rest on the ground and use the criss-cross saw motion to get through the rounds.
