How Do I Replace a 2005 Mustang GT Fuel Filter?
- 1). Keep a Class K fire extinguisher on hand in case of a fuel fire.
- 2). Block the front of the front wheels on each side of the car with two logs or wood blocks.
- 3). Disconnect the battery cables from the battery.
- 4). Jack up the rear end of the car, and use two jack stands to securely hold the car in place.
- 5). Compare the old fuel filter to the new one to make sure you have selected the right filter for the Mustang GT.
- 6). Remove the fuel pump fuse. This is found by looking at your owner's manual schematics.
- 7). Turn the key on the engine, and let it idle until it dies. Turn the engine over with the key for about 8 seconds to release the pressure from the supply manifold.
- 8). Put the fuse back in place.
- 9). Roll yourself under the car using a creeper, and locate the old fuel filter. It can be found between the rear end assembly and the gas tank.
- 10
Remove the cover from the fuel filter area, and remove the fuel line connectors using the fuel line disconnect tool. Remove the bolt that connects the fuel filter to the fuel filter plate bracket using an end wrench. - 11
Install the new filter in place, making sure the directional lines point in the correct direction. The fuel flows from the back of the car to the front. Make sure the arrow points toward the front of the car. - 12
Secure the filter with the bolt, torquing it to 44 inch-pounds using a torque wrench. - 13
Put the fuel line fittings back in place, and put the cover from the fuel filter area back. - 14
Reconnect the battery cables, and complete a final inspection before starting the car. - 15
Start the vehicle, and check for leaks underneath the car. Use your sense of smell as well as your other senses to make sure there are no leaks.
