How to Compare LED & LCD TVs
- Visible detail depends on the technology used to light the screen. LCD screens with only one light source must be lightened or darkened as a whole. New LEDs offer individually controlled lighting segments, though edge-lit LEDs do not provide this advantage.
- The viewing angle is the angle at which the screen can be watched without any loss of color or contrast. LED televisions provide better contrast and wider viewing angles. Check the viewing angle of your new potential televisions side-by-side if possible.
- LED televisions provide more accurate color along with a wider range of colors. LCDs and LEDs handle motion using the same technology and so should offer equal quality when watching fast-paced sports or movies.
- LEDs cost up to 20 percent more than similarly sized LCDs, according to PC World. However, LEDs offer energy savings and a longer screen lifespan.
