How to Design an Asian Themed Room
- 1). Look at color in a new perspective. Black is common in Asian design as color for trim and furniture. Off-white tones and soft, nature-inspired neutrals are also common colors and work well when paired with black.
- 2). Add a dash of color. Unlike some Western designs, Eastern designs tend to use bright, vibrant colors as accents, rather than focal points.
- 3). Use contrast to restore order. Instead of clashing, different textures and finishes create balance in Asian-inspired rooms. Put a stone coffee table on a hardwood floor, or set off a painted bookshelf with a collection of wooden figures.
- 4). Use elements of nature. Bring the outside in with a combination of wood grains, stone and grass mats.
- 5). Heed the adage, "Less is more." Tranquility does not go well with clutter. Keep furniture and accessories to a minimum, using space as a key element in your design.
