- 1). Disconnect the black negative battery cable (or grounding cable), which connects to the frame of the vehicle, from the vehicle's battery. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the cable's clamp from the negative battery lead. Remove the clamp from the lead post and rest it away from the battery.
- 2). Remove the vehicle's stereo by consulting your vehicle owner's manual for specific instructions. Procedures for stereo removal vary among vehicles. Pull the stereo deck from the dash far enough to access the wire connections in the rear of the unit.
- 3). Disconnect the wire groups from the back of the stereo. Grab the groups by the plastic binders, not the wires themselves.
- 4). Connect the wire groups from the vehicle to a wiring harness adapter. The adapter will provide a universal outlet for connecting the iPod adapter.
- 5). Connect the iPod adapter to the appropriately identified auxiliary lead. Connect the wiring harness to the stereo.
- 6). Feed the iPod adapter cable through to the glove compartment.
- 7). Replace the car stereo in its dock. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for specific instructions.
- 8). Reconnect the grounding cable to the vehicle's battery. Place the cable's clamp around the negative lead and tighten the clamp using a Phillips-head screwdriver. The clamp needs to be tightened so that the clamp cannot be moved around the negative lead post by hand.
