How to Make Your Own College Pennants
- 1). Purchase pre-cut felt pennant shapes in your preferred colors, or cut a long triangle from a sheet of felt with a sharp pair of scissors.
- 2). Use the scrap felt leftover after cutting your triangle, or select a contrasting color of felt, and draw letters on it with a marker. Cut the letters out with scissors, cutting inside the lines so the marker is not on the finished pennant. You can also use acrylic paint and sponge letters to stamp lettering on the felt, or you can purchase pre-cut felt letters.
- 3). Arrange the letters on your felt triangle until you are happy with the pennant. Pick up the letters one at a time and apply fabric or felt glue to the back of the letter. Press onto the felt triangle.
- 4). Repeat the steps with each letter, and allow to dry. Drying could take up to 30 minutes.
- 5). Turn the pennant face-down on the table, and lay the ribbon or dowel rod against the shortest side of the triangle. Cut a strip of felt the length of the side of the triangle, and wide enough to cover the dowel or ribbon.
- 6). Apply fabric or felt glue liberally to the back of the felt strip, and press it into place over the ribbon or dowel. Allow to dry for at least an hour, but up to 12 hours before hanging or lifting by the dowel.
