How to Replace Honda Civic Struts
- 1). Raise your Civic with a hydraulic jack until the wheels are off the ground. Place jack stands under all four corners of the car under the frame. Lower the hydraulic jack. Remove the wheel lug nuts by removing them with a lug wrench in a counterclockwise direction. Remove the wheels and set them aside.
- 2). Open the trunk lid and remove the carpet mat by lifting it up at the corners and raising it from the trunk compartment. Set the mat aside.
- 3). Remove the four strut-attaching bolts (two on each side) located at the front of the trunk compartment floor on each side. Twist them out in a counterclockwise direction with an adjustable wrench. Set the bolts aside.
- 4). Remove the two lower strut-attaching bolts (one on each side) from the suspension control arm underneath the vehicle. Remove them in a counterclockwise direction with an adjustable wrench. Set the bolts aside.
- 5). Remove the strut assemblies from underneath of the car and discard.
- 6). Place the new strut assemblies into position from underneath the car. Make sure the mounting studs in the top of the struts protrude through the mounting holes in the trunk compartment. Attach the four strut-mounting bolts from inside the trunk compartment (two on each side) by turning the bolts in finger tight. Attach the lower strut bolts (one on each side) and tighten in a clockwise direction with an adjustable wrench. Now, tighten the upper bolts in the same fashion. Replace the trunk mat and close the trunk lid.
- 7). Replace the wheels and tighten the lug nuts in a clockwise direction with a lug wrench. Raise the hydraulic jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the hydraulic jack and remove it. Re-tighten the lug nuts in a clockwise direction.
