Campground Review and Description

Description: Overall, we like this campground. The campground and facilities are kept clean and neat yet retain a wild feel. Some sites have a natural buffer between sites (which we like) and others are open like being in a fish bowl. There are several nice walks and the nature center is delightful.

Louisiana State Parks have Wi-Fi.

Pros, Cons, Attractions and Additional Comments

Pros: Clean, quiet during the week, near enough to Hammond or Baton Rouge to make it reasonable if you need to stock up, and get errands done.

Cons: It is low and swampy, which is part of the charm, but beware: if it has been rainy, parts of the sites may be under water. Wi-Fi in all Louisiana State Parks is annoying. Apparently, they use the same filter for park visitors as they do their office workers. I tried to access "The Chew" for a recipe I wanted to try for dinner and the filter wouldn't let me access it. My husband tried to look up some information about a movie on IMDB and that was blocked as well. Many sites that are very useful and some that are essential to vacationers are not allowed.

Attractions: no comment.

Comments: no comment.

From Tickfaw State Park, in Hammon, Louisiana: "At Tickfaw State Park, you can go night hiking or listen to the swamp nightlife from the porch of your vacation cabin.

Check at the Nature Center for scheduled programs. While there, view the 800-gallon aquarium stocked with fish found in the Tickfaw River. There are also displays featuring the animals, history and culture of the area and of Louisiana. Be sure to watch the 8-minute introductory video about the history of the park area."

The campground has 30 improved campsites (water and electrical hookup), 20 unimproved campsites (water hookup only), 14 deluxe cabins, and a group camp that includes dining hall/kitchen and 2 dormitory-style wings, sleeping up to 52 people.
