How to Change the Oil on a 216 Engine
- 1). Raise the front left side of the Chevy vehicle off the ground with a car jack. Lower the Chevy's frame onto a jack stand to support it as you work.
- 2). Place the oil catch pan under the drain plug on the right side of the oil pan. Remove the drain plug using a ratchet and socket. Allow the oil to drain completely and then replace the plug in the oil pan.
- 3). Place the oil filter wrench around the oil filter and turn it counterclockwise until the filter comes from the oil pump. Fill the new filter with oil first and then place the new filter on the oil pump. Turn it clockwise by hand until it is snug.
- 4). Lower the Chevy vehicle to the ground the opposite way that you raised it. Open the hood and remove the oil cap form the top right side of the engine. Pour the rest of the new oil into the engine, replace the cap and close the hood.
- 5). Start the engine to circulate the oil. Pull out the oil dipstick and wipe it clean. Stick it back into the engine and remove it to check the oil level. Ensure the engine has enough oil, add more if it does not.
