How to Make a Skull Ring
- 1). Break a piece of white oven bake clay out of the package. Use a ruler to measure the oven bake clay piece. The piece you need is only about 1/2-inch wide, any larger than this and your skull ring may get caught on things and break. You can use any color for the skull, including oven bake clay with metallic shimmers.
- 2). Mold the clay into a skull by first forming a teardrop shape. Flatten the teardrop shape and use your thumb and index finger to pinch a jawline and chin on the tapered end. Break off two tiny pieces of black clay and press them into the eye sockets with the help of the tip of a paint brush or some other thin, tapered tool.
- 3). Place the clay skull cabochon on a piece of aluminum foil and bake it in a conventional oven for the time and temperature specified on the package of the oven bake clay. Use an oven mitt when you remove the skull from the oven. Wait at least 30 minutes before touching the skull.
- 4). Apply a dab of E6000 glue to the back of the skull cabochon you made. Affix the skull to the broad, flat top of a ring blank. E6000 glue is epoxy glue that is often used in the making of jewelry because it is strong and compatible with many different materials.
- 5). Brush a coat of clear enamel over the skull and wait 30 minutes for it to dry. This protects the clay and will give the skull a glossy finish. Clear nail polish can be used if you don't have any craft enamel.
- 6). Glue small rhinestones around the outside edges of the ring blank that surrounds the skull bead. Don't touch these rhinestones for at least 10 minutes to be sure that they won't shift as the glue is drying.
