    • 1). Take the truck to have the air conditioning system discharged. This must be done by a licensed technician at the dealer service department or automotive air conditioning shop.

    • 2). Disconnect the truck's negative battery terminal.

    • 3). Drain the engine coolant into a large container by removing the radiator drain plug; you may need pliers to loosen it. Repeat this for the drain plug at the engine block.

    • 4). Remove the instrument panel from the inside of the truck.

    • 5). Disconnect the heater hoses from the inlet and outlet tubes at the firewall by squeezing the plastic tabs at the fittings together. Disconnect the evaporator lines at the firewall. Plug the hoses and lines to prevent contaminants from entering.

    • 6). Disconnect the main vacuum line and remove the demister tube; it has the square brush at the end.

    • 7). Unscrew the bracket from the top of the heater core housing. Unscrew and remove the heater core cover and pull the core out; make sure you don't tear the foam sealing material.
