How to Make a Drawstring for a Crochet Pouch
- 1). Decide on how long the drawstring will be. The minimum length should be twice the circumference of the pouch opening.
- 2). Cut a length of ribbon that is twice as long as the desired length. For example, if you want the drawstring to be 10 inches in length, cut a piece of ribbon 20 inches long.
- 3). Thread the ribbon through the opening of the darning needle until the needle is at the halfway point of the ribbon length. Weave the darning needle in and out of the crochet pouch, about 1/2 inch down from the edge of the pouch's opening. Go completely around the entire opening.
- 4). Pull the threaded needle out of the crochet piece so that there is a loop of ribbon about 1/4 inch long. Remove the darning needle from the ribbon by slipping the ribbon off of the needle eye. Thread the loose ends of the ribbon through the loop. Tie a small knot in each loose end to prevent fraying. You can use Fray-Check or a similar product instead of tying a knot. Pull the loose ends to close the pouch.
