How to Clean a Ford 460 Big Block
- 1). Park the vehicle on a level surface. If the 460 Big Block was recently running, allow up to an hour for it to cool completely.
- 2). Scrub the engine with a wire brush. Dip the wire brush in a bowl of hot water as needed to clear away carbon from the brush. Continue to scrub the engine surface until most carbon is removed or loosened. Wipe away loose debris with a wet rag.
- 3). Apply carburetor cleaner to the engine surface. Rub the cleaner into crevices and corners using a rag. Allow the cleaner to soak into the stuck on debris for ten minutes.
- 4). Scrub the engine surface once more with the wire brush. Be sure to focus on stuck on grime. Rinse the engine clean using a wet rag. Continue this process until the 460 Big Block is visibly clean.
- 5). Treat the engine with WD-40. Spray the lubricant onto the surface and rub it into the crevices and corners with a clean rag. This will protect the engine surface from future buildup.
